I was just thinking.. why not merge the WOW forum with the staff gallery? They basically serve the same purpose, and it would be more of a motivation, I guess. There's no real point in having both.

You could also lower the requirements. I'm not entirely sure what they are right now, but they could just be for a theme to have no defaults, look nice, and obviously be something that alot of people love. That's what they probably are anyway, but there isn't a topic so I can't check. :hehe:

Well... In my opinion, the WOW forum has been there for a long time and I think we should keep it. Not only for that reason, but also because I think it's already nice for the members to have their own 'premium section', thus I don't think they'll be more motivated if their themes/skins would be in the staff's theme forum.

I disagree. They're meant for two different purposes.

True. I never really thought of it that way. :hehe:

moving on...

I personally think the member WOW section receives more attention than the staff gallery.

What happened to us?
I think that it would be unwise to both merge and lower the standards, as that would mean the quality of the gallery could easily slip. That wouldn't be the case, but you never know. I think having both separate serves a better purpose, because it's like a special rank. The standards are fine as they are right now, IMO, because not everything that is usable should be a WOW. There are so many different factors when it comes to design that it can't be lowered more, IMO.

I honestly agree with you. It wouldn't be a beneficial move to merge the two galleries for this exact reason.

We have lowered the standards, and we continue to. :)
That's not something you should boast about. xD

I don't think it would serve the purpose if it was merged (like logika and several others said).

No, I feel I need to respond to this: design has changed. What we see on ZB is not what we saw on IF. People are not used to the layout change, the different CSS, and the essential make-up of it all being different. If we upheld themes to the same standard as we had skins, it would be a really bad learning environment. I actually feel that the place IF skinning reached was already quickly devolving into a bad situation. Someone (I don't remember where or who) recently made a comment about design not having any intrinsic reward because of the pressure to yield results within a certain mold. Although we want to see great themes that equal, in their own way, the masterpieces we saw on IF, we have to tread a careful line. And that has meant that we've reset the bar by which we assess member themes to award WOWs. It would be like asking a child to play a sport alongside of the pros (or even college level teams). You have to set a fair standard for the community we have. The WOW standard we had did not always exist -- it developed along with IF skinning. And it will do the same for ZB themes.

In that respect, times have changed...the standard that was set for InvisionFree Skins was much slower, the learning curve set by themes has been a lot faster. The last few major skins, are nothing compared to some of the initial themes on ZB, and some of which have already been converted.

The WOW standard may have developed with IF skinning, but thats when there we're actually skins being continuously released and standards consistently challenged, that doesn't seem to be the case with ZB so far and it may take a lot longer...so I wouldn't see the problem in trying something new.

Common misconception, a very common misconception. The ZB CSS is made up of two halves. One half, you edit, the other, you don't. So imagine that CSS cut straight down the middle, that's all you have to edit. Maybe even less. Takes a long time to make themes? Once you've got going and know where to edit, it takes 3 days tops to make a theme. If you're efficient enough, that's probably including an image set. I finished that RR theme in 1 day and a half, it might not have been coded very well but the majority liked it.. and that was my first theme. I'm not as intelligent as some of you on here and if I can do it, why can't any of you? You just need a bit "get up and go". ^_^

I think you misunderstood what was said. Lenny isn't talking about the actual amount of time it takes to make a theme but, I believe, the comparison between when IF skins were being released constantly and the releasing of ZB themes, which indeed haven't been released/made as quickly as the Invisionfree skins back in the previous years. As a result of that, the standards haven't been as high or competitive as they were before.

For skins of mine no longer found on IFSZ, click here.
I no longer have any buttons/markers/whatever graphics that correspond with my skins, please don't PM me asking for them.
